Trekking Season and weather:

Nepal is a landlocked Himalayan nation offering trekking routes that rise from low altitudes to well over 5,500 meters. Before trekking through its different regions, you should understand the seasonal weather in those areas.

Recently, global warming has also affected the Himalayan climate and glaciers. Here is a guide to the weather patterns and the best seasons for trekking and outdoor adventure.

Spring season (March-April-May):

Spring season is the finest months for trekking at different region, white water rafting, jungle safaris, mountain bikes, sightseeing and mountain flights in all parts of Nepal, trekking from low to high elevation at the Himalayan region.

During the spring season at different parts of mountain, you can see very beautiful colourful views of rhododendrons and other wild flowers in full bloom, clear views of the Himalaya and mountains. You can see spectacular views of Himalayan peaks and mountains at far distance.

Temperatures are moderate before the arrival of the monsoon, not cold not warm. Especially this season is best time, enjoying holiday with children and new couples. This season bring the happiness for all the local farmers and trekkers.

These months are suitable for trekking, peak climbing, and Himalayan expeditions in Nepal.

Summer/Monsoon (June - July -  August):

Summer brings the monsoon season to Nepal. During these months, heavy rainfall across most of the country creates unfavorable conditions for trekking, Himalayan expeditions, white-water rafting, wildlife safaris, sightseeing and mountain flights.

Trails and roads are often blocked by landslides, swelling rivers can wash out bridges, and thick cloud cover severely obstructs mountain views. However, if you plan to travel during this time, you can trek in rain-shadow areas such as Tibet, Upper Mustang, and Upper Dolpo region, which remain largely dry.

Autumn (September - October - November):

Autumn is another highly popular season for trekking, mountaineering expeditions, white-water rafting, jungle safaris, sightseeing, and mountain flights in Nepal.

During these months, the weather is exceptionally clear, offering spectacular views of the Himalayas. With moderate temperatures - as the summer heat has ended and winter cold has not yet set in - it is one of the best times for trekking at both low and high elevations across the country.

Autumn is also an ideal season for tours and treks in Tibet. In the mountain regions, you will see local farmers busily and happily harvesting their crops while preparing to celebrate major cultural festivals.

These months are suitable for trekking, peak climbing, and Himalayan expeditions in Nepal.

Winter (December - January -  February):

Winter in Nepal brings cold, freezing conditions marked by low temperatures and heavy snowfall in the high Himalayas region. High mountain passes and mountain airstrips are often blocked for extended periods due to snow, and temperatures at high altitudes routinely drop well below freezing.

In winter, high mountain passes above 5,000meters, are often closed due to heavy snow, making it impossible to complete full circuit treks.

However, winter is a fantastic time for short, low-altitude treks offering clear blue skies and uncrowded trails. It is also an ideal season for cultural sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley, mountain flights, rafting and wildlife safaris in the warmer southern plains of Chitwan and Bardia National Parks.
